We will be reading and discussing plays every morning. Ibsen. Chekhov.
Pinter. Strindberg. The participants will read a play for each session (keep an eye on the website to find out which plays) and we will talk through it together.
We will examine the monologue; two-character scenes; three-character
scenes and larger group scenes. We will look at the difference between the spoken word and the written word. We will examine the sentence, and what the sentence must carry on
stage as opposed to what a sentence carries on the page.
The participants will be asked to write scenes which we will read and discuss.
Hopefully we will have a good time!

Marina Carr has written extensively for the theatre. Her plays
include By the Bog of Cats, Portia Coughlan, Woman and Scarecrow, Marble, The Mai, and On Raftery’s Hill. She lives in Kerry.
